The Northern Constabulary, operating from new purpose-built headquarters in Inverness co-ordinates policing activities throughout the Western Highlands, the Outer Hebrides and Orkney & Shetland.
All the internal and external print needs for the 250 HQ staff and all the offices throughout the force area are met by the in-house print room. Documents produced range from statistical reports, memos, letters and all the administrative material you’d expect to find in any large office to leaflets, fliers and posters distributed to the public. Many of those items also need to be stapled, stitched or perfect bound.
The print room was previously equipped with four high volume systems for both B&W and colour output. Eileen McLennan sought replacement units when those systems came to the end of their lease and operational life. Danwood Highland replaced the four systems with just three units – two high volume systems and one colour digital device. All the units are connected and supplied with fully loaded sorter/finisher options.
“It was difficult to believe that these three systems would deliver everything we needed and more, but I have to say that, today, I’m glad I took Danwood Highland ’s advice!” says Eileen McLennan.
The systems more than cope with everything thrown at them, and thanks to the finisher options that will sort, collate, staple, hole punch, insert cover sheets and produce completed booklets at the touch of a button on the control panel or directly from a PC, Eileen now produces finished booklets and reports in a fraction of the time taken previously, with no errors or missed pages.
The 21ppm colour device is also supplied with a powerful in-line sorter/finisher, and it has been a great success according to Eileen: “We never did a lot of colour work before because copy quality and consistency was a problem. The machine is great. Colour copy quality really is excellent and it’s fast too!”
The reliability of the systems has also impressed Eileen: “We haven’t had a single service call out since the machines were installed towards the end of 2002. I think I’ve had one paper jam over those months, and that’s it!”
However, the greatest benefit from the Danwood Highland solution as far as Eileen is concerned comes from the compact footprint of all three units. Even with console finishers, they take up less than half the area required for the previous systems. So much space has been freed up by installing the units, that Eileen now has her own dedicated office area within the existing print room layout.
